Chapter Four

Mason beamed. He had to stop on the threshold of his new bedroom just to watch as she stood gaping at the finished product.

If Mac had done everything right, this was her vision. From the wall of windows, slightly curved, with nothing blocking the view of the craggy mountainside, and the fireplace, nestled in the corner crackling with warmth, down to the gold and maroon bedding she’d linked him to in an email. Lightning flashed, lighting up the entire room. She touched the stone encrusted walls, and let her dainty fingers trail along the pine mantle. She even picked up one of the throw pillows on the easy chair.

“What do you think?”

She spun around, her hand over her heart. She looked so small wrapped in his big robe. Her face was scrubbed clean and rosy with warmth. “Oh, it’s beautiful. I had no idea it was done. I stood in that shower that whole time and I—” she shook her head, then set the pillow down. “It’s beautiful.”

“You sound surprised. Isn’t it just how you pictured?” He crossed the room to set the tray with their tea onto the table in front of the fire.

“It’s exactly how I pictured. That’s why I’m surprised. When did he finish? Mac didn’t tell me.”

“He was sworn to secrecy. I signed off on the remodel yesterday, as soon as the last sticker was peeled from the windows.”

She was gorgeous. Big blue eyes, her delicious mouth half open in surprise, moistened by a pink tongue that darted out to tease him. He didn’t know what it was, but seeing the woman fresh from a shower and wearing his clothing had to be the sexiest damn thing he’d ever seen.

She pivoted, silently taking in every detail. “Wow. I just—” she faced him again. “I’m good!” She grinned.

He laughed, and because he couldn’t help himself, gathered her until her back pressed against his chest. “You are good. Mac had no problems.”

Another flash of lightning bolted across the sky, and as they watched it flicker away, thunder rumbled in the distance.

“So you signed off yesterday, huh?” Her voice had dropped to an intimate level. When her hands covered his where he held her, he knew she’d just put the puzzle together.

“That’s right.”

“I suppose I have to have dinner with you now.”

“And?” He turned her around to face him.

“And? I don’t know…dessert?”

“Try again. I’ll give you a hint.” He reached up and traced her lower lip with the pad of his index finger. “It involves your mouth. And me.”

Her eyes glittered with devilishness.

“My name, Miss Meyers.” He laughed, his lips resting against her forehead.

She looped her arms over his neck and pulled him down. “Mason.”

He let his eyes drift close as her warm tongue painted his lips. Just before his lowered enough to touch hers, he whispered, “Ashley.”

Gently, he nudged her mouth open, and coaxed her tongue to dance with his. Almost lightheaded with the effect she had on him, he shifted his stance to steady himself. She tilted her head, and he took advantage.
